Allbirds commits to only use wool from regenerative sources by 2025

Sustainable footwear and clothing brand Allbirds has announced its commitment to only using wool from a regenerative source by 2025, further expanding its sustainable approach in production and product.

The direct-to-consumer business will launch its first products made from the sustainable fibre within the next year, and will work with existing suppliers to meet its goal to shift sourcing entirely by 2025.

The ambition to change its sourcing practices supports the brands 2025 target goal to ensure the company’s wool supply is carbon neutral.

The new new commitment targets Allbirds' most resource-intensive natural material: Merino wool, which accounts for about 25% of the natural materials used by the company, but 80% of emissions related to natural materials.

Allbirds now also publishes the carbon footprint for every permanent product, with new figures published on product pages and printed on products annually.

In April 2020, the retailer tapped into the performance footwear market through the launch of Dasher – a running shoe made from renewable natural materials.

The company has also recently partnered with high-profile brand Adidas and expanded into new product categories including sustainable clothing.
