Allbirds closes all Europe and US stores amid coronavirus pandemic

Allbirds has announced the immediate closure of all of its stores in the US and Europe, as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The footwear brand is closing its stores from 15 March to 27 March, joining Nike, Abercrombie & Fitch and Urban Outfitters who all announced similar moves over the weekend.

Allbirds confirmed that employees would continue to be paid and receive the company benefits they're entitled to. All corporate staff will begin to work from home.

Co-CEO's Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger issued a statement, announcing: "It's hard to navigate the unknown, but as we continue to better understand how to slow the spread of COVID-19 we want to do all we can to keep our customers, employees and local communities safe."

"Our online stores around the world are still open for business as usual, and we're working closely with our suppliers to ensure their safety while we also fulfil orders and respond to needs as quickly as possible"

"As the COVID-19 situation changes, our plans may too. In the meantime, staying connected to others is more important than ever, even when we can't be in together in person, so we'll continue reaching out through our digital channels to try and put a smile on customers faces."

The business only recently opened its second UK store, after it's first location in London's Covent Garden was a success.
