Shulman, who was replaced by Edward Enninful OBE, headed a relatively short list of honourees from the fashion industry this year. Legendary fashion PR Lynne Franks was awarded an OBE for services to services to business, fashion and women's empowerment.

Franks made her name in the 1980s when the British fashion industry began to explode and represented clients such as Katharine Hamnett, Jasper Conran and Harvey Nichols.

She is credited with launching the precursor to London Fashion Week when she persuaded a client, the Murjani Corporation which owned Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, to sponsor a large tent outside the Commonwealth Institute in Kensington to enable British designers to show their collections.

Retail power couple Chrissie Rucker and Nick Wheeler also received OBEs for services to retail having respectively founded fashion and lifestyle brand The White Company and shirt maker Charles Tyrwhitt.
