Alexander McQueen and Chanel make top 20 global CoolBrands list

Lauretta Roberts
27 September 2016

Alexander McQueen and Chanel are the only two luxury fashion brands to make it into this year's CoolBrands list of the top 20 coolest global brands, coming in at 13 and 19 respectively. However Nike and Adidas both made it into the top 10 (at five and eight) reflecting the huge shift towards health and wellbeing that has driven the "athleisure" phenomenon.

Beauty brand MAC charted at 15 while optics brand Ray-Ban squeaked into the list at number 20 in a year when the tech distruptors dominated. The list was topped by Apple (which was expected to be toppled from the number one spot this year) with brands such as Netflix, Youtube, PlayStation, Spotify, Google, Bose, Sonos and GoPro all making an appearance.

Of the social networks it was fashion's favourite platform, Instagram, that dominated. The photo and video sharing platform came in at number six and was the only social network to feature in the top 20.

The CoolBrands List is compiled following research among 2,600 British consumers and a CoolBrands Council that includes fashion designer Amanda Wakeley OBE, British Fashion Council CEO Caroline Rush CBE, publicist Liz Matthews, Ally Capellino founder Alison Lloyd and swimwear designer Melissa Odabash among other cultural influencers.
