Online off-price giant YOOX is launching Africa-focused collections for its in-house brand 8 By Yoox, which is powered by AI.

The series of capsule collections is called Tales of Africa and forms part of Yoox Net-A-Porter's 2030 sustainability strategy. The capsules will be created by six designers from the African continent and are meant to combine "local know-how with the aesthetics of 8 by YOOX".

The project was created in partnership with Lago54, a European agency dedicated to promoting exclusively African fashion designers.

The collections will include ready-to-wear garments, bags, accessories and footwear, featuring the specialist techniques of the six designers, including Imane Ayissi who will showcase the national fabric of Burkina Faso and Estelle Yomeda who has created a collection of bags and sandals that use bazin fabrics and vegetable leathers. Adhiambo Mula-Lauwers, Reggi Xaba, Teta Isibo and Nkwo Onwuka are also involved.

The Tales of Africa project will launch exclusively on Yoox from the beginning of May.

Giovanni Fedel, Head of Own Label at YOOX commented: “Tales of Africa is an important project for 8 by Yoox, which increasingly aspires to be an inclusive platform that gives voice to talent from all corners of the world. We are delighted to be able to integrate these pieces into our collection and make them dialogue in an authentic way to express a global and contemporary style.”
