Adidas shakes up top management in China to recover sales in the region

09 March 2022

Adidas has announced the appointment of Adrian Siu as its new head of the Greater China business, taking over the role from Jason Thomas.

Siu previously led the company's Hong Kong operations and has returned to the sportswear giant after spending two years as Chief Executive Officer of fashion label Cosmo Lady.

Thomas has been appointed to the role of Senior Vice President of Global Franchise.

Adidas saw sales in Greater China fall over two consecutive quarters in 2021, with the company facing a boycott by Chinese consumers. Consumers in Greater China criticised the Western brand's response to ceasing the source of cotton from Xinjiang following reports of human rights abuse against Uyghur Muslims in the region, which Beijing denied.

Adidas did not confirm the reason behind Thomas's replacement, but highlighted that more information would be shared on an earning's call on Wednesday.
