'80s fashion design icon Pam Hogg dies

Chloe Burney
26 November 2025

Pam Hogg, the Scottish designer whose rule-breaking aesthetic shaped British fashion, music and club culture for more than four decades, has died. She was understood to be in her 60s; however, she did not publicly disclose her age.

In a statement shared on Hogg’s official Instagram account, her family wrote: "The Hogg Family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Pamela. We are grateful in the knowledge that her final hours were peaceful and surrounded by the loving care of cherished friends and family. We wish to thank all the staff of St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney for the beautiful support they provided for Pamela in her final days.

"Pamela’s creative spirit and body of work touched the lives of many people of all ages and she leaves a magnificent legacy that will continue to inspire, bring joy and challenge us to live beyond the confines of convention.

"Pamela will continue to live in our hearts and minds. A glorious life lived and loved."

No cause of death was provided.

Hogg’s death marks the loss of one of British fashion’s most distinctive voices: a designer, musician, filmmaker and self-described "mischief maker" whose influence stretched from the Blitz Club to Fashion Week and from underground bands to global superstars.

Born in Paisley, Hogg studied Fine Art and Printed Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art before moving to London to attend the Royal College of Art. She launched her first collection in 1981 and quickly became a fixture of the city’s emerging new wave and club scenes.

Her early designs - bold Lycra catsuits, sculptural silhouettes and high-octane colour - helped define the visual vocabulary of 1980s nightlife. Hogg’s work bridged fashion and music. Her fans included Siouxsie Sioux, Nick Cave, Boy George, Alison Mosshart, Fat Tony and Debbie Harry. In 2016, Hogg even designed the iconic statuette for the Brit Awards.

After taking time away from fashion to produce her film Accelerator, Hogg returned to the runway in 2009. Her first Paris Fashion Week presentation debuted in 2012.

Zandra Rhodes described her to WWD as "an eccentric, dominant London character," adding tha "the fashion world won’t quite be as vivid or rebellious now Pam is no longer with us."
