US lifestyle platform Refinery 29 has revealed the 11-strong team to head up its new dedicated UK site, which is part of a major global expansion.

The UK team is headed by editor Sarah Raphael, previously acting editor of i-D. Further key hires include features editor Gillian Orr, formerly culture and features writer at the Independent, Alice Casely-Hayford, formerly of Hunger Magazine, who joins as fashion editor, and associate editor Amelia Abraham, who was previously at Vice.

Kirsty Hathaway, previously at AnalogFolk, joins as director of branded content, and Anna Jay, formerly at The Debrief, has been appointed visual editor.

Conceived 10 years ago to challenge traditional women's magazines, Refinery 29 features a variety of content including style, "wellness" and news. Earlier this year it secured $50m in funding, taking total funding so far to $80m. The business is valued at around $300m.

The next step for global expansion include dedicated sites in France and Germany which are expected in early 2016.

The news comes as Clique Media announces that it is launching dedicated UK sites for its shoppable fashion and beauty platforms WhoWhatWear and Byrdie.
